Grounds Maintenance Operative

About the role:

An opportunity has arisen to join the team at Landican Cemetery as a Grounds Maintenance Operative. This role plays a key part in ensuring that Landican and Heswall Cemeteries grounds are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for bereaved families, visitors, and funeral services.

Key Responsibilities of the role:

  • Carry out a wide range of grounds maintenance tasks across Landican Cemetery & Crematorium and Heswall Cemetery using appropriate vehicles, machinery, tools, and equipment safely.
  • When required assist in grave preparation, setting out, and excavation, supporting interments and assisting at funerals where required.
  • Maintain landscaped areas, lawns, trees, pathways, memorial sections, and cemetery grounds to agreed standards.
  • Conduct site inspections (where applicable) and assist with general site upkeep.
  • Provide polite, professional interaction with Funeral Directors, bereaved families, contractors, and visitors.
  • Maintain accurate work records and follow all site procedures.
  • Work safely and comply with all Health & Safety requirements and cemetery regulations.

About the candidate:

We would like to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Practical skills and experience in grounds, horticultural, or cemetery maintenance.
  • Ability to use grounds maintenance machinery and tools safely and effectively.
  • A reliable, flexible approach to working outdoors in all weather.
  • Sensitivity and professionalism when working around funerals and bereaved families.
  • Strong awareness of safe working practices and willingness to follow cemetery rules and procedures
  • Full driving Licence
